Felt this so much. Not a Mama yet, but until I moved to Substack I was stuck in an endless comparison loop. This fresh start has been everything and more for my creativity and writing.
Ah GEM. I filled up a bit reading this! I’m not a mum but as a fellow-creative *still* wondering what the hell I’m doing on a regular basis and constantly comparing, telling myself I’m not quite good enough or this that or *something* enough and forever procrastinating I can do relate to nearly all of this. I think, and I say this and mean it right from my heart but still struggle to take my own advice is this—
What makes me read your words, cook your recipes, check in with you, see what you’re growing, doing etc is YOU. There are a million other creatives out there and there will always be those that are ‘ahead’ and those that are behind but never ever think that you don’t have a place, don’t fit or don’t belong.
What makes you, you is what makes you unique and relatable all at once and aslong as you can realise that and celebrate that, you’re doing what you do from the heart and for you xxxxxx
I completely understand the identity crisis with motherhood, not to mention all of the other things like procrastination, inability to progress amongst a chaotic tangle of ideas and aspirations! Not sure if you've heard of Philippa Craddock, but I'd highly recommend her podcast and blog aimed at creative entrepreneurs. Her '2%' rule has been a game changer for me, not at a business level (I'm now realistic about that much 😄) but on a daily life level, tacking overwhelming stuff by breaking it down into manageable chunks. I'd sort of been doing that for ages, but it took reading Philippa's blog to turn it into a much more systematic, focused approach. It's still a work in progress, but I'm having a lot more success than previously. I remember receiving your gorgeous newsletter previously - wonderful recipes and writing with beautiful style and true class. You have it all, with focus you can get to where you want. 🧡 x
This Substack being your lake, not the ocean, is perfect. Here’s to finding our people and doing what we love, you’ve got this!
